This project , the Pneumococcal Vaccine Trial, in the remote region of Upper River Division is one of the largest trials ever undertaken by the MRC , with upwards of 20,000 participants. The system went live, to budget, in December 2001.Sea Bass consistently addressed risk, particularly important in our environment where language, climate and isolation play significant roles. The system design that Sea Bass developed not only covered the requirements of our trial, but is generic to any patient-specific trial. As I write, MRC are exploring the wider implications here. A trial auditor regularly visits our site from the US. He himself is overseen on an annual basis by a senior who 'audits the auditors' . On visiting our site in May 2002 this 'super auditor' commented ''I have experienced over 150 trial data systems . This is the best'' . It has been a pleasure. Sea Bass built our revolutionary software product, which is the first ever call centre strategic modelling and analysis tool. The product enables organisations to increase profits up to 40% by evaluating the business effect of changes within their call centres. At every stage in the development of Elitium Sea Bass brought highly skilled resources to bear upon the project - from PowerBuilder design and development, C development, graphic design through to training and supporting our staff. We would not hesitate in recommending Sea Bass Software as a software development partner. Sea Bass Software designed and developed our off-line credit tracking system to specification and budget within tight timescales. We were particularly impressed with the workshop they ran towards the end of the project involving a full team walk through of the system. This ensured we had a complete understanding of the functionality and design. Our team was completely new to relational databases, structured OO development and PowerBuilder! Sea Bass Software developed a tailored programme that combined formal training and individual mentoring. After 5 months we are now able to approach a project ourselves with confidence. All we need will be milestone reviews and health checks to ensure that the best practice we have learnt is applied. One of our consultants acted as a mentor and 'guru', her main objective was to improve the use of PowerBuilder within the existing team and project. The system being developed was a Generic Data Warehousing application using PowerBuilder and Oracle. On the QA side she has carried out design and code reviews and introduced programming standards. Her problem solving skills have enabled the team to save significant time and money. We provided the lead in a pilot proof of concept for a distributed architecture. We were able to significantly 'de-risk' the approach and ensure that the customer and systems integrator understood the issues involved with moving to a 3 tier architecture. This is one of the most professional organisations I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I learned more in the last 5 months, than I have learned in the past 5 years.
